i was asked to sign a petition to release an albanian immigrant from jail.
i was told he was in peper process, but he didn't send a form in time and one day immigration arrested him. he has been in jail for 5 months.i was told he didn't commite any crime.
i always knew if you are illigal you get deported and that's it, you don't spend time in prison unless you have criminal charges against you..
AM I WRONG?? do illigal spend months in jail just because of their immigration status???

They can spend time in jail awaiting their deportation hearing which can take months before it happens. It is possible to secure release while awaiting a deportation hearing if the judge feels the person will in fact attend the hearing.

Since 9/11, there are numerous people being held in violation of their civil rights even though they have not been charged with something. But if this main is in the country illegally, the gov't has the right to hold him until he is deported.

Yes, some illegals do spend months in jail before they are deported.

I wouldn't sign a petition like that unless I knew it to be a fact and I made sure that there wasn't a carbon under the petition having me sign a different form at the same time. That is a trick that was used in the 2000 elections to re-register people to a voting district the other side of the state so that they couldn't vote in their home district.

Antissuck if the person was Mexican would you have given the same answer ?

Id try to get all the information I could on why this person was in jail. The fact that he is Albanian may have something to do with the fact its taking so long.It depends on what you think ,not what others think. Just KNOW what you are placing your name on at all times.Good luck.

NO, they are usually deported if they are caught. Usually, immigration is too busy to mess with one day stats. Those that commit crimes are usually the ones held. Hope you didn't sign it!

They can if authorities want to investigate whether the immigrant did anything illegal while here. They can hold them indefinitely, and they don't have to be charged with anything.

(Thank you, Patriot Act)
