i own a repair shop, and there are a few ways you can tell when one is going bad,one it will start loosing power real bad,and it will also start running a little warmer than usual also and it may pop back through the engine once in a while, and at night it may have a slight glow to it in color from over heating, some of them will even get red at night ,it will also stumble and hesitate real bad,if you have any of these symptoms you need to take it and have it checked, they can drill it and see if it has to much back pressure on it,this will tel you right away if ts bad, good luck i hope this help,s.

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee; however it is a 6 cylinder. I get about 19-21 in the city and 24-26 on the highway. I would imagine a V8 would get a little less than what I experience. I love my Grand Cherokee. It has been fun to drive and very reliable. If you are getting a good deal, I would say, "Go for it!"
