Why do people find passing gas funny? And why discuss it when it occurs?

Bodily function "humor" is so declasse, yet I seem to be in the minority. Burping contests, talking about your poopies.....yuck

This is called "scatological" humor. I've always equated it with teenage boys, who seem to get the most glee out of it. Go figure!

Women and adult men (at least, in mixed company) may snicker, but usually refrain from holding long diatribes on the subject.
