label itself as such, atheist catholic jew muslim sunni shia agnostic weak agnostic strong agnostic weak atheist strong atheist lutern budhist jew orthodox greek orthodox prodestant lutern baptist first bapist second baptist

then this species runs around having little arguements with people who aren't using the same label

isn't this a problem, it could lead to extinction,

should we on yahoo answers set an example and stop using these labels?

all these labels do is divide us,

we need one label to encompass all of us,

I propose the word "CITIZEN", that we use the word Citizen,

we would all have our own beliefs, but as Citizens, we would have perhaps a thought process of respect.

I await your ad hominem attacks on my spelling and why my idea isn't practical because I'm not smart enough.

The Christians don't like the term because of it's association. They prefer hetero sapien. Us atheists know that is just not correct.

Seriously, humans fight each other when they do not have a unifying cause. If aliens invaded earth (pardon the dramatics) we would all join together, and religion would not matter. During WW2, the Chinese stopped fighting a civil war, and unified for a time to fight Japan.

In concept it's a good idea, however you need to be able to classify people into general groups. For example saying "Citizens need to lose weight" could taken to heart by those that suffer from anorexia to hazardous extremes. It isn't really the label that divide us or cause the problems, it's the intolerance of other's views.

We are all human beings, members of the human family, but it would be a very sad loss if something were to happen that made us all think alike and act alike. Our diversity is one of our greatest assets. It helps us grow as a social species. By challenging each other constantly, we do waste a lot of time on pointless bickering, but our arguments and discussions also lead us to consider possibilities that might never have occurred to members of our own group.

It could be taken the other direction. Divide, subdivide, subsubdivide, until we have over 6 billion categories each corresponding to one human. Then these divisions will have no more significance than our names.

By the way, if it weren't for spell check my spelling would be atrocious too, guess I'm not very smart either.

Go Jim! Now just convince the other 6+ billion "Citizens" of the world to repeat this and you've got something.

Scientists classify ALL species, including ours. Despite what some may like to think, we humans are just as much animals as dogs, cats, and tsetse flies.
