This is the card we use-the visa is for big trips or emergencies. Their customer service is excellent, you pay it off every month (you don't have to) and their rewards points seem to go much farther. Its just a good company and much more accepted now.

I have read on a number of message boards over the years that an amex helps your credit score. I don't have any first hand knowledge one way or the other.
I use them for both my business and personal accounts because I never get any funny business. For instance, if a charge shows up that shouldn't be there, it is immediately removed without question. A number of my visa and mastercards have royally screwed me over the years for "auto-renewals" that they insist will not be removed without consent from the person doing the billing. I had a online service continue to bill me (auto-renewed) for a year on a monthly basis and never answered their 1-800 number to cancel keeping me on hold for 30+ minutes. I cancelled the Capital One card and Capital continued to let the charges through each month and sent me a bill. Chase and Citibank were a similar story. That would NEVER happen with American Express.
On the small business side, they have been extremely generous and helpful with getting me financed. Customer Service answers their 1-800 number 24 hours a day. No press 9 then 4 then 2 then we are sorry we can't take your call right now.
So the answer to your question is customer service as far as I'm concerned.

About the same as any of the others. Some people pay for the privilege of having an Am Ex Card, but I have the Optima version, and it was and still is a freebie.

You get to pay a nice, big annual fee for a card that is not accepted anywhere the free one aren't. But somehow, they're considered prestigious. Ain't that great?
