>>Were you brainwashed by Catholicism?<<
No, I was brainwashed by the general Protestant atmosphere in the United States and simply assumed that Catholicism was wrong. Then I actually STUDIED Catholicism for myself, and ended up converting to it.

I was born and raised as a Presbyterian Protestant. I was thoroughly brainwashed by that denomination's doctrine. My mother was a Sunday School teacher.
When I was 22 I converted to Catholicism. Why? There were some things in my Church that I didn't like so I started looking around. I attended services of other Protestant denominations. Still, I couldn't find what I was looking for. All this time I was having a debate with a college buddy about our religious differences. He introduced me to a priest and that was when my eyes were opened to the truths the Catholic Church teaches.
I am now 67 years old and very happy with that decision. Of course I was persecuted by my family and friends but later on they understood and respected my decision.
Peace and every blessing!

I guess you could say I was... come to think of it... even though I was always questioning the answers and not taking anything at face value, I still suffered guilt and anger and such while exploring other possibilities. Catholicism and the concept of a creator god (as put forth in general) made no sense to me, ever, but the "you just gotta believe" and "because I said so" from the priest and the family kept me guilt-ridden for quite some time, even after I escaped the narrow world-view of the little microcosm I was born and raised in.
Interesting question.
Anyway, after I got out into the wider world and gained experience along with the higher education, the logic of how things really worked started to make better sense and then I discovered Buddhist philosophy which finally answered all of my questions... finally there was a logical answer that made sense and I understood it! I've been Tibetan Buddhist ever since.

I was assaulted for 22.5 years. Catholicism was used during my assaults and its love twisted around in brainwashing. I do not really believe that religion is something to follow in your quest for rightousness. I believe that the beliefs and values in your heart make you who you really are. Religion is just a guide. Use your heart and make your own decisions. Be the best person that you can be think of faith, hope and love and stay positive. You will find you way using the gold in your heart not the spcific guidelines placed out in religion. Take care Heather

No, I converted to Roman Catholicism and am very happy I did so.
In order to find the truth you must be willing to look for it in places that might be uncomfortable. I'll give you a hint - the truth isn't found in books.

Every one who is and has been a Catholic has been brain washed by them.
This is the experience.
Jesus set me free.
You will never get out of it unless you are freed by God Himself.
However, the rest of the churches are not perfect either. Some even worse than the Catholic one.

yeah ... well a little piece of information ... catholism may have alot of mans ritualistic parts mixed in ... but it has brought the message of the Lord Jesus to many parts of the world and in some places almost the entire population is catholic and there are devout christians with very close relationships with God in those places ... u should be careful who and how u judge and what u say ....

Think my gran tried to brainwash us. Are weekends were taken up with church as kids. Every morning at school we had to go to church first, and id say those nuns were the worst for punishment. They used to batter you with a ruler. no longer go to church, do my own thing and believe in what i want.

Well i am catholic but i always keep a open mind. I don't believe everything my religion suggests is good or bad. For example, if gay people want to get married or whatever let them do it...it ain't hurting me.
