Wouldn't that be unintelligent design?

You wonder why because there is no reason to. Evolution caused it.

I could pass it off as my own ideas, but just go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestigal_organ

Its evolution, no matter how hard Christians want to deny its existence.

Look here too:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evidence_of_evolution

This was also really interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goose_bump

It turns out that goosebumps, as a response to cold, are a vestigal reflex, from a time when humans had more hair (as in, before they were human).

I think you all need to read some updated textbooks, you are stuck in the 50's and are repeating outdated information. Those so called whale leg bones are actually bones attached to tendons which support the whale's erect penis (its like 50lbs). As for the appendix, it actually plays a role in the human immune system. Ever think of what the purpose would be for a so called useless part that can become inflamed and kill you?

>>Why did God design whales with unusable leg bones inside their body?<<

God is the who, evolution is the how.

I agree with Terri. But I remember reading about snakes, how they have some sort of vestigal organ, indication they may have walked. Which is interesting, 'cause in Genesis God made the serpent crawl on it's belly forever, indicating that it did walk. I don't know a whole lot about it though, I may be wrong.

Creatures evolve. Why do we have an appendix? Why do men have nipples? Why do they have so much dang hair, especially all over their backs & a r s e s, lol? Somehow, evolution plays a part in it all.

I've often wondered why God would design vestigial structures (and yes I know it is because of evolution, ergo he didn't)

just because someone used the term "unusable leg bone" when referring to that bone doesn't make it so.
Did it ever occur to you that just because something is not understood does not make it useless.
That's just something people do to make themselves seem smarter.
"well, we don't understand this, so it must be useless"
HAHAHAHAHA
pretty egotistical in my opinion.
