If they're new my ghds had a bit of an odd smell for the first few weeks. If they're not I'm guessing there's traces of heat protection spray and other products in the nooks and crannies of the plates. Try a damp cloth over the plates and around the tongs. If that doesn't help they may be too harsh for your hair or your being too slow with your sweping down the hair strands. Or your going over the strands too much. With ghds you don't need a lot of pressure to straighten and you only need to go over each strand once. If you should need to do it again wait for the strand to cool completely before straightening it again!

Hope that helps!

The burning smell is caused by residue from the heat spray you use left on the plates, just clean them every week or so and the smell should fade

Do you use heat-defence spray when using hair straighteners? This should stop the smell.. at least a bit. I sometimes can smell this too :( but after all we are burning our hair :( Or after you straighten your hair, put hair spray or a little bit of serum/gel to make it smell better. I wipe down the straightening plates after ever use ;) Hope i help

Yes its burning your hair. If you can't turn down the temp on them make sure you spray some protective treatment on it first and don't hold them on your hair for too long.

They are burning your hair. Maybe you are keeping them still too long. Either that or maybe your protection spray isnt very good or you dont put enough of it on. I use L'oreal Studio Hot Straight Cream. Its really good and it smells nice too!

because it's burning your hair.
you need to protect your hair from the heat. try a straightening serum or creme in damp hair to blow dry and in dry hair to flat iron.
that's why the products were made.

Thats because they're burning your hair cuticles which is gonna ruin your hair and in the long run, become coarse, dry and straw like. Buy a ceramic hair straighter, because the metal one you're using over heats and can burn your hair!!

Is your hair completely dry?

Also, maybe it's too hot for your hair..

ALSO, you should perhaps invest in a head protection spray!

prob the hair product burning, also wipe the plates down after each use, as hair products collect on them.
