Try a two sided brush, but one of the sides should be little metal peices bent like a seven (7) These really get the hair, but you do have to pull the hair of the brush. My cats LOVE these kinds fo brushes. Whenever they see it, they are beggin to get brushed. You can buy them at Wal*Mart, Target, any pet store, anywhere (except Costco)

The kind in link # 1 (wood handle black plastic bristles) does not work on a long-haired cat. At least not well. Don't get one.
Get a "slicker" brush. Links show different kinds of brushes and deshedding tools. The Easy Groom Cat Shedding Blade I've used on a cat. It works, but don't use it too much because it tends to pull fur and can thin the hair mor than you might like. So use it once a month or so.

I highly recommend the ShedEnder as advertised on TV. I have a Maine Coon cat, which is a very long haired cat, who sheds a lot when not properly groomed. I have owned my ShedEnder for about 6 months. The past 6 months have been most enjoyable with little to no cat hair on my furniture. When I ordered mine it included a special offer ionic grooming brush which is also nice. But, if I had to choose between the regular ShedEnder and the Ionic Brush, I would definitely choose the ShedEnder.

A flea comb works the best. It really removes the loose hair.
