A friend went to worship from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m Sunday night. Later the next morning she didn't get important homework done because she didn't study last night.
This is christianity based stuff. Believe God is God, Jesus, and holy spirit. On the lines of methodist, baptist, church of God... those guys.
By worship, I mean were talking about going to a university chapel (mini church) and sing contemporary popular worship songs and some popular hymns (Chris Tomlin, David Crowder...). This is done with other university friends late at night, by themselves in an empty chapel that's never locked. People bring guitars, and they're already all good friends. They sing, get emotional, close their eyes, get on knees, and sometimes discuss they're thoughts of life topics, like maybe the meaning of life.
The homework, is just an assigned piece of work due in class the next morning.
So... it pertains to, "what is worship" and priorities of a christian...
Let me know your thoughts!

God "prefers" a pure heart, those that worship in spirit and in truth.
He "prefers" that you respect the authority He Himself has set over you.
Using church/worship/Bible study/prayer time/whatever as an excuse to slack on your responsibilites is lame.
I mean, if you are in a worship service, and you are truly seeking God, and your heart is open to receive what He has for you, don't you think a certain amount of conviction would come due to your lack of respect for the authority of the teacher that gave that assignment? And the lack of respect for the commitment you gave to the university when you enrolled in the class in the first place? (I know you said it was someone else, that was a generic "you")
God does not look for people that know how to "do" church or "have" an emotional worship service.
He looks for those that give their ENTIRE lives over to Him and desire to respect Him in EVERY aspect of their lives. He wants you to be dilligent in ALL things, not just "churchy" things.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men" Colossians 3:23

The problem is not "What God would prefer", (because all religious leaders think that they speak on behalf of God), but What is the right thing to do: Do homework due the next day, or simply stay up until late worshiping a Deity?
Your friend most likely knew about Sunday night meeting, and she had at least half of Saturday and all Sunday Morning and Afternoon to do her homework, yet, she chose not to do her homework when she had the time to do it. Then the next morning she goes to class without the homework. That is being irresponsible.
No matter the religion of a person, everyone is responsible for her/his own acts. Religion some times is used as an excuse to cover up the fact that we have been irresponsible with our work.
I teach a class in the same city where I live, and I have people of different religious beliefs and atheists in my class. The first thing I teach them is responsibility, and I teach by example. I cannot teach that which I am not willing to practice.

its like asking is it okay to smoke weed and dont do my assignment for tomorrow?
I think your friend is lazy to do her work, if she knew she had an assignment due tommorow why did she go? Besides, she could have done her hw in the morning and afternoon if she knew had plans that evening, why didnt she? too wasted? My advice she needs to manage her time and priorities better.
God should be worshipped everyday.. not just a sunday or confined to a chapel. I believe worshipping him is incorporating his teachings like the ten commandments into your daily lives, not bowing or worshiping to a statue like they do in many churches, pray to ask for forgiveness, and to thank his blessings.
Priorities of being a good christian is to take some a bit of your time to care and help others. As today society is leaning towards more self centered mentality, its good time for christian to balance it.

Well, the homework certainly wasnt assigned on that particular sunday, nor was it assigned on the saturday before.
Seems to me the priority would have been to do the homework on the Friday night or saturday.
Sounds like procrastination, present and in full swing in most of us.
God prefers that we do things as they are supposed to be done, we prefer to wait until the last moment and then get a bit defensive when something happens and we cannot get it done at the last moment.

I am Christian. I do not think all of us would have made the same mistake. I often will work on Sunday to support the family God gave me. Some people just miss the point I guess. God will always be there and so won't the church. Sometimes we just have to get things done. Those are my thoughts.

While God is very very important, I personally feel homework comes first over this church event as God would want you to have a good future, and your homework will surely help you with that (good education, good future).
However, I had a friend who had an important church event over the weekend and he showed up in school without doing any of his homework. Even though his teachers were mad at him, he stood by his beliefs and explained to his teacher that his religion meant everything to him and that it was his first priority. Of course, he quickly caught up with his homework and with the pace of the class- he is generally a pretty diligent student.
So what I learnt from this is, if the church event is really important (maybe an annual activity), it would be reasonable to put church in front of homework. But if its a normal event, your homework should be given priority. God wants you to be the best you can be and your education an integal part in achieving this.
Do remember that God understands everything you and your friends are going through. =)

God wants you to fufill your responsibilities. As far as priorities, dont use God as and excuse for not doing homework. You are responsible for getting that done ahead of time.
We are each given 24 hour days and the choice of how we spend out time. I doubt all wekend was spent in worship.

the homework had to be assigned, at latest, Friday evening. So why not do the homework on Saturday and worship on Sunday.
Don't "those guys" have something against work on the sabbath anyway? If your friend is such a big Christian why was s/he considering working on the Lord's Day?

There are many ways to honour God, and one way is to take care of our responsibilities.
While giving praise is important, we shouldn't use it as an excuse to put off other things we are supposed to do. God wants us to be successful, and with a little time managment we can find time for everything that needs to be done. It may be that you have to cut out some of the things that aren't so important.
