It does help with yeast infections. If you get too many you can get cancer and the doc has to lop it off.

Hello raymond;

No, God does not collect foreskins. It was done for the following reasons. " This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised." Genesis 17:10. It was a contract if you will, an agreement between God and Abraham and his descendants. It was to set apart the Israelists from the rest of the then known world.
It is now a very common practice in this country.

It was a blood ordinance signifying the inherited nature of the old covenant of the flesh between God and His chosen people, Israel, passing from one generation to the next. Just as umbilical cord to umbilical cord there is continuity in the blood from Eve through Messiah. It is a bond which transcends the generations.

The heart of a Christian is circumcised to Christ. When a Christian witnesses of their faith and another receives the life saving message a new heart is likewise circumcised. And so now the covenant or contract between man and God, the contract of love and everlasting life, is transferred not through flesh and generations but through the Word, spiritually. Thus we become one in purpose with our Heavenly Father by the Holy Spirit, having one mind in Christ.

Circumcision is described in the Bible as a 'sign'. A sign of what? And what good is a 'sign' that can't be seen, except in a public bathhouse or in the privacy on one's own bedroom?

It is a sign, a reminder to the man, that there is something greater that the physical, the animal in us. The circumcision serves to remind us that we can curb our animal lusts and pursue greater spirituality. It is therefore a sign of transcendence, a constant reminder that we are God's creation and God's servants.

It was part of the covenant that God made with the Jewish people. That is what the bible says at least. Most of the ancient Jewish laws had to do with hygiene in some way. These laws were developed to promote healthy clean living in ancient Jewish society. It is a law of man not of God.

this is an example of man's laws mixed in with the symbolism of the biblical stories. god doesn't "want" - "he" is. we as jews can decide whether or not those laws still make sense in our societies.

for me, that one doesn't make sense. how can i make that choice for someone else? i actually chose not to circumcise my son for the same reasons i later converted to judaism. (reform does not require this as part of the conversion process)

just ritualistic scarification in my opinion. should have been left behind around the time animal sacrifices went out of fashion. not many, but some born jewish mothers are even refusing to do this to their newborn sons. most still do it because it makes them feel connected to the jewish people.

It was a symbol that YHVH gave to Abraham. An indication that ALL of Abraham's power was from YHVH. Paul seems to say that since the symbol had been so badly abused by those who called themselves "Jews" (though they weren't) that the symbol was no longer required.

It's only a sign of the covenant between God and His people, Israel.

It is a sign that the Jews are obedient to God.

Gentiles do not have to get circumcised, but there seems to be some health benefits to it.

He doesn't anymore. That was a law of Moses and was done away with after Jesus died. That said, I don't know. Most of the Kosher laws had a scientific reason. But i can't figure that out.

Every time that you get ready to have sex, you see your altered penis, and you think about the God who made you do this.

If you are Jewish, it reminds you that the Jewish God is picky about whom you have sex with.
