The pentacle is a prime symbol. A pentagram is simply the star without the circle around it, which would not constitute protection.

Saturdays are best for spell for protection and freedom, which is ruled by Saturn, so you could use the symbol for saturn? Just a thought...

I don't know about freedom and independence, can't think right now, but the pentagram is the most powerful protection symbol for witches and it also represents the five elements. Five you ask? Yes, the points of the pentacle represent earth, air, fire, water and spirit, the hidden element.

The pentagram can have more then one meaning depending on the person.. The pentagram has 5 points to it. 4 for the elements and one for the spirit. The pentagram with the circle around it is for protection to many.. Imagine the circle around the pentagram as a circle you have cast during a ritual.. basically the same thing.. Hope this helped.but you can type in wicca/witchcraft symbols and get different symbols and their meanings..

The pentacle. The top point is spirit, the other four are the elements, the circle is the world. The world is outside the star but touching it representing that are part of the world, not above it but the world is always greater than we are. Within those boundaries, we are free to do as we wish.

Well a pentagram is a symbol of protection, can symbolize the four elements (with the fifth being spirit) and if you wanted it could mean freedom and independence too I suppose.

One could look at this symbol as basically a representation of God and Goddess - the Horned God of the wild, and the Triple Goddess represented by the waning, full, and waxing moons. Usually, when a symbol is within a circle, the circle represents, to me, the continuous circle of life. Edit: Hmmm...I agree with LabGrrl to a point. Yes, the stag has antlers, not horns, so perhaps it is more symbolic of the masculine energy of the God - and the triple moon the feminine energy of the Goddess? It is interesting how different people see such symbols and how they interpret them. And to be a little picky - they are not half moons. Half moons would be literally depicted as half of a full moon. The moons you refer to in this picture are crescent moons.
