I have been having the same problem. The way I am going about it is to look in the local papers for a private rental rather than through an agency, also, try offer a double deposit or something like that, it quite often pursuades a reluctant land lord. Also go around all the local estate agents and leave your details and what you are looking for with them, also try putting an add in the local paper saying what you are after.
