You need to remember there are no miracle diets or work outs. They all take time so don't get discouraged if you don't see results right away. How long just depends on the person and how much time a day you have to dedicate to your fitness goal. The best thing I have found is running(great cardio, doesn't bulk you up) and pilates(tones and lengthens your muscles). Limit your carbs but don't throw them out completely. Your body does use them for energy. Sometimes keeping a journal on your daily work out, food intake, and weekly measurements help also. I went from weighing 150 pounds down to 105 pounds in 8 months by running 3 miles, doing an hour of pilates, eating healthy and watching my carbs. I cut out all my soft drinks and drank water, juice, coffee, and milk. And I cut out all fast food and high fat snacks. But what works for one person may not work for every one.

The quicker you should aim at slimming, and at the same time, keep your health in good shape (which is more important than your exterior shape, isn't it?) is about 1 lb per week. NO MORE.
The best nutrition method for that is described in the book "Protein Power", by Dr. Eades. And consists of eating right, doing a prudent amount of exercise and avoiding the foods that tend to clog your arteries and hide in your fat cells.

Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.

A fun way to do it is going out to dance with friends at a club or somewhere. Even if you don't like dancing, it's lots of fun!
