Music was created by God. The evil is in how men and women use it.

Inherently? I wonder.
In the Old Testament, for the Temple worship, certain instruments that existed were not allowed as they were more of a secular use.
I would be very careful to say one way or the other now, but we can know certain things and draw our own conclusions based upon the facts we find.
Music affects the limbic system in the brain, the part that influences our emotions. You've no doubt noticed that.
How do you feel after hearing some happy, bubbly pop music, or some tear-jerking song? Notice HOW the song is being played also. Songs can manipulate and draw out emotions from people.
So, is it good to be so led?
Consider also the words. These especially since they convey a message, and can put ideas into someone's mind they hadn't thought of before. No, I am not talking of mind control, just simply influencing someone to think or consider something in a certain way.
Inherently? Very hard to say.

Music is expressionism. Writers use music and lyrics to convey their emotions. However, just as a novelist writes a gripping fictional horror story, it isn't always meant to be taken seriously. Its sad that when some will blame music and lyrics for the actions of a few that will listen to it, however, I've yet to hear anyone protest some of the Horror movies that come out on screens these days.
In conclusion, while some may be meant to be taken seriously, others are simply written in a fictional sense.
By the way, to the guy below me, you're wrong..... the interval that's considered evil, or "the devil's interval" lies between a perfect 4th and perfect 5th, or diminished 5th. For those of you who are unfamiliar, listen to West Side Story's "Maria" Ma-Ri (tri-tone) then resolving to the last sylibol "A" is a perfect 5th.

It is a fact of life that whatever a person allows to occupy his mind will sooner or later determine his speech and his action. This is the premise behind Philippians 4:8 and Colossians 3:2,5: establishing wholesome thought patterns. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says we "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ." This is how we allow Jesus to be "the Lord of our lives". That gives us a pretty clear picture of the kind of music we SHOULDN'T listen to.
Obviously, the best kind of music we can listen to is that which praises and glorifies God. There are a lot of Christian musicians and singers out there, spanning nearly every genre available to the secular market. From there, it is a matter of taste. There is nothing inherently wrong any particular style of music. But if secular music leads you to think about, or get involved in something that does not glorify God – then you should avoid it.

No I don't. No music is evil or bad. Music is an expression of truth.
Did you know that during the medieval times, the interval (distance between two notes), the perfect fifth, was considered by the church to be evil, and was not allowed to be used in any of the music created at that time. Just goes to show, how silly, religious dogma can be. The perfect fifth is now used extensively in pretty much all music.

I think that some of the late GG Allin's music, with titles like "So What if I'm A Rapist" and "Expose Yourself to Kids" is pretty bad.
That said, living in America, I fully support his right to sing, record, and perform the music of his choice.

The only type of music I think is bad or evil is any that overtly encourages people to murder, do drugs, or mistreat women.

No--some particular songs or artists which promote violence, demean women, promote drug use, or are ethnocentric or racist (like the creepy "White Power Rock Music" thing) are "bad," I think, in that they promote bad things. I don't think there are any genres of music that are inherently immoral, though.

I think sexist and homophobic rap is pretty awful. Very bad, but would not go so far as to say evil.
