The Bible does not specifically say how long it took Noah to build the ark. When Noah is first mentioned in Genesis 5:32, he was 500 years old. When Noah entered the ark, he was 600 years old. The time it took to build the ark would depend on how much time had passed between Genesis 5:32 and the time that God commanded Noah to build the ark (Genesis 6:14-21). At the absolute most, it took 100 years.

According to Genesis, God chose Noah and gave instructions on how to build it and of the collection of animals that had to be done but there is no mention of time taken to accomplish the task. Here is where reality clashes with fiction. For the existing population of that time, there was no knowledge of zoology... The world for those people was their surroundings. How was Noah supposed to go around the world collecting animal species he did not even know existed? The highest number of animal species live in the Amazon jungle. What happened there? Did they just drift from across the Atlantic? Why are there species that live only in certain areas of the planet? Hey, what about the polar animals? Did the ark have a refrigerated compartment? Were they mailed by a private courrier to where Noah was building the ARK?
See what I mean?

Only God can for sure as it is not written in the bible. When his age is first mentioned it states he was 500 years old when he got his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth. It says then that God told that he would make mens lives 120 years as they were so sinful so some say this is the time he took to build the ark. not talking about the ark at all but the lifespan of man then. Next time it talks of Noah's age was at the time of the flood he was 600 years old. So you can do the math that it was at least 100 years between getting his sons and the flood but with the tools he had to use and such you can figure it took a while to do such a large boat. Nobody can say for sure but God but you can see it did take some time.

The Bible doesn't give a time for how long it took to build. Genesis 6 only gives you the dimensions of the ark which happen to be close to the Golden ratio:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio

Genesis puts the time frame at 120 years, but the translation of the word year is probably more realistically a month or a week.
Either that, or people had one heck of a diet secret back then.

It took him 120 years, but much of the work was done by the animals. Remember he had access to Woodpeckers and Beavers, and Elephants etc.
