3500. Remember, though, you have to calculate calories consumed versus calories burned. If you eat 3500 calories today, you will not gain a pound, because your body probably burns 2000 to maintain your weight (depending on your weight/height/gender). If you do this for several days, though you will gain a pound.

That is a good question. The standard text book answer is around 750 cals. However, you need to know calories of what? E.g. if during the whole day you did not eat a single pure carbohydrate but ate, say 3000 calories in protein (eggs, meat, chicken etc..) you would NOT gain ANY extra weight, even if during that day you did not exercise. However, you should exercise because of other reasons, the most important of them being to stimulate your immune system to work properly. It is your best protector from any kind of germs and other junk we are exposed daily.

That depends on your metabolism and how many calories your body burns. For a short and small person, 1500 excess calories could be a point of weight gain. For a much larger person, it may be as high as 4500. And if you are burning calories through excersise it could be more.
The usual is 3500.

WOW. This is about the 8th question I've seen today about calories and weight.
Like they said:
1 lb = 3500 calories.
A difference of 500 calories per day between your caloric intake and caloric output would make you gain or lose 1 lb per week, everthing else being equal.

3500--but do not forget to take into account water weight, which is usually extremely variable.
