I do think that Yusuf Islam is a good example, yes. I agree with you. I have watched + listened to a lot of his songs, before being muslim, and after. And i got to say, he is good all along lol. For a celebrity, to change religion without controversy and all those media putting their nose into it, i think he did a great job. I look up to him, when i myself change my religion.
But yeah, he is good, really good !!

Well it shouldnt be our problem to judge people and their talents with their religion..cuz this is a personal thing it only between the person and his god...when we are dead is any one going to earth with us???its only our deeds and our relation with god..i think yusuf islam found in the islam what we did see...maybe its not as it appears..for example dimond is a very stronge and tough stone but still it's percious, may be islam is that way you dont understand until u know about..
its true that yusuf of cat stevens has gone away for a while but may be he having a break (for his spirtual life)and then he coming to suprise us!!! i love him with any religion and may be more when he became muslim...cuz at least he got what he was looking for....thank u
for ur info: am Jewish.

I am a big Cat Stevens fan. Unfortunately Yusuf Islam hasn't released anything that I find appealing at all.
I like that he hasn't used his celebrity to push his religious beliefs down our collective throats, that tells me he really believes in Islam and is a true follower.
Unfortunately, since his conversion, he hasn't produced anything that has meaning to me. His new songs are not well written. That should be a bit concerning for Islam, does a Muslim conversion mean that one's creativity is stifled? If Cat Stevens is an indication then the answer doesn't look good.

I love Cat Stevens, and I think he can do what he wants about his life. Anyone is free to change religion, but I've noticed that there are lots of famous people doing so, like actors following buddism, or scientology, etc. I think there is something that popular or rich people are looking for. I hope they find it.
Personally, I have to work hard to raise a family, and don't have that problem. I never get bored at that point. :-)

I honor his work as an artist but wonder if he took to many drugs back in the seventies
Mr. Yusuf Islam expresses himself after 9/11,
"Today, as a member of the human family, I have been shattered by the horror of recent events. The display of death and indiscriminate killing we have just witnessed in the US has undoubtedly scarred humanity; terror on this scale affects everybody on this small planet of ours, and no one is free from the fallout. Not only did the terrorists hijack planes and destroy life, but also they hijacked the peaceful religion of Islam and split the brother and sisterhood of mankind.”
He blames the Hollywood Movie makers for this terror!
" It must also be mentioned that during these last twenty-odd years, there has been a noticeable build up of hostility and propaganda in the West against Islam. The growing number of violent films we have seen coming out of Hollywood depicting Muslims as terrorists, should have prepared us.”

Cat Stevens was a brilliant musician who wrote amazing (silly and idealistic, but amazing) songs that inspired many. He converted, and promptly stop doing anything creative for the next 30 years. Apparently it took him 30 years to figure out that it was ok to play music in Islam. It's ashame that becoming a Muslim wasted so much talent.
Maybe had he become a Jew, he'd have continued writing fantastic music.
Why am I not surprised that you wouldn't appreciate his pre-conversion music?

I don't give credence to anything celebrities say. I did like his music as Cat Stevens, I haven't heard his new stuff.
I wish him well though. Celebrities generally get too much air time. Overkill.

Well, it might be good for you who are Islam but for us who loved his music it wasn't good at all. He just sort of dropped off the face of the earth after he converted and never made anymore albums for us to enjoy. He was the best.
