Could it be Vitiligo?

Or Hyperpigmentation?

If you are unsure what it is, it would be best to ask the doctor, he will be able to refer her to a dermatologist who will be able to correctly diagnose :)

exactly, it has to do with the pigmination in her skin. everyone has different amounts of melonen in their skin, which is why some people are more prone to the sun and its burn. in the summer time, make sure she ALWAYS has sunscreen on her body, ESPECIALLY on her back. also, i would go see a dermatogologist, just so she can reassurue you that there is no outbreak reason for this sudden change of color.
GOD FORBID of course, but if she never had this coloration before, the reason to get it checked is so that your doctor could warn you on whether it looks like it could ever contract a form of cancer...sun spots like these are usually best kept safe when you take care of them. I am not trying to scare you at all, so please dont misunderstand me, but just as likely the doctor could say all of this is normal, but either way you need to get it checked out to be on the safe side.
dont worry, and good luck

This sounds like Vertiligo.
Check on the web for info and refer your daughter to your doctor ; who should refer you for any treatment you may need.
I believe this is a harmless condition; but may cause your daughter some distress psychologically and finding a support group would be of great benefit.
Good luck.

it could be due to not properly washing...however it could indicate childhood diabetes. this skin discoloration is commonly found on the neck however, but i would seek the advice of a doctor to rule out diabetes.
good luck
