It depends on who you ask. Breeds are so different, different breeds are going to please different people.

I think most people would say Labs and Goldens because they are calm and gentle and sweet dogs....

While I like those dogs, I prefer other breeds, I don't know if I have a favorite. I like Rotties and Staffies, Siberian Huskies, and Westies... I don't particularly care for poodles, etc...

I love my poodle. They come in 3 different sizes to fit your lifestyle. They have very little dander, so they don't aggravate my allergies at all, no matter how much I play with him and pet him. They shed very little and the hair they do shed is caught within the curls of the coat. All I have to do is brush him for ten minutes everyday instead of vacuuming all over the house. Poodles are among the most intelligent dogs. They will love and protect the whole family, not just one master as many hunting/working dogs do. They make great pets, but can also be used as excellent service animals and retrievers. Poodles were bred as water retrievers, so they make excellent companions when you are duck or small game hunting. Even the miniatures are capable of bringing back smaller ducks and other game. For me, poodles are the best dog breed and I'll always buy poodles.

To tell you the truth I also am a German Shepherd dog fan because in Poland I have a huge generation of them...Each time when one dog dies we get another one...But German Shepherds need a lot of yard space so they can do their business and they need that yard space to run
Yorkshire Terriers are nice but the Miniature version is the best because they won't have a lot of hair growing and they won't be big...

It really depends on who you're asking because everyone has a different opinion. I for one like all breeds of dogs and there isn't really 'the' best one for me. And even though some breeds have a bad Reputation they are all different and can actually be very sweet, loving, protective, obedient, loyal dogs. But if you're looking into buying/adopting a new dog you should ask the breeder/fosters about the dog and meet them first. the dogs ive had are a golden retriever, a lab, and a chihuahua. they are all so sweet

you have to choose the best dog breed for you. there is no "best" there is "best for you". Take in to consideration, your finances, whether you can afford a breed that is prone to health problems or needs large amounts of grooming or boarding- can you afford that? take into consideration the amount of time you have to spend on the dog..puppies need constant attention, and large dogs can not stay cooped up in a crate all day, they need exercise and walks to go to the bathroom, some breeds are more dependent than others..some need more lovey time with their owners, and some need a lot of brushing and grooming time. Take into consideration the other members of your family..some breeds do not do well with young children, their temperament just is not geared for a lot of handling and poking and some small breeds are too fragile to have around little ones, accidents do happen. What kind of space do you have? do you have room for a medium to large breed? large dogs need large homes. What kind of climate do you live in? Some breeds do not do well in overly warm climates and some do not do well in colder climates. there is no right answer as to which is the best breed- only which is the best breed for you, if you are thinking of getting a dog, please take some of these points into consideration- for the dog's sake.

There is no 'best' overall. What do you want the dog for...a pet? to work (if so what kind of work? herding, drug sniffing, handicapped assisance, guard dog, etc)...to look pretty?

Different breeds have different "strengths"...most people have their favorite but that doesn't mean that dog (breed) is actually better than all others, although it may be better than many/most/all at a specifc task or involving a specific trait.

Dogs rock though...I miss having them in my life and hope to get out of apartment living one day so I can have another canine companion. ☺

That depends on what you are using the dog for. A toy poodle would not be the "best" police dog because it cannot knock down a large man. But to answer your question the way you want it answered, I would say the German Shepherd because they are smart and if properly raised they are fearless.

There is no definitive answer to this question.
Everybody here can name their favorite breed, but only the person living with a dog can truly say whether or not that animal is the right dog for them and their lifestyle.

This really depends on the person considering getting a new dog. For some, it's a mix, for others, they need a job done and a purebred is best.

For me, I love Border Collies with GSD's a close second, tho lately I've become partial to Belgian Shephards too.
