What educational requirements? High school deploma? GED? Home school "diploma from ones mom? What tests are required? What about disibilities? What about the ability to write? (I'm serious here). What are the age requirements ---with and without parents' permission. Is a state drivers licence required? Will the Army issue its own drivers licence? Will the Army accomodate serious food allergies? Would the ability to speak Arabic be a plus for getting into the Army?

age: 17 - 42

physical: you need to talk to a recruiter and then go to meps and take the physical

moral: if you have more than 2 misdemeanors then you need a waiver. if you have 5 or more misdemeanors then you are disqualified. if you have a one felony you need a waiver but don't count on getting it. if you have 2 or more felonies you are disqualified.

education: right now the army is taking GED's and home schools but don't count on getting any extras out of the army.

mental: you need to score at least a 31 on the asvab. sometimes the army will allow a certain amount of people get in with a 21 but you need a high school diploma.

the army maybe opening the door for more people to join but it is harder to join the army than to be hired by many civilian employers. also if you think that soldiers are stupid, 61% of the army has scored higher than 50 on the asvab.

Actually they have not really dropped any standards. There is an experimental program that is testing 'cherry-picking' people with GEDs who appear to be more intelligent. The theory is that not all people with GEDs are low-quality prospects and maybe we can identify these.

Any person with any sort of a police record (no matter how minor) must be waivered. The waiver process looks at the 'whole person' and attempts to determine who are simply people who did something dumb as a teenager and who lack the morals required for military service.

The media has for years been attempting to make people think that there is a 'crisis' in military recruiting. The fact is that the military is still filling the ranks with recruits who are of higher quality than those who fought the first Gulf War.

I have been in for 11 years. The requirements to join the Army is in most cases a high school diploma, get a passing score on the ASVAB (which many fail even with degrees because of people like the above answerers who are retards and couldn't make it in the Army), and the Army is very strict on medical history. You must be 18 unless you are 17 with parental permission.

The Army pays pretty good (above the national averages for most police departments) plus full medical, dental, vison, free college, etc.etc.

As other have said, be healthy and pass the test and score as high as possible to have better choice of jobs. The question better than how to get in is...."will I be able to handle it?" It might be fairly easy to get in, but it is a tough road. Are you the kind of person that can handle the army requirements on a daily basis? So what if they lower the standards? Can they handle it once they get in? If they can, then I am glad the army took a chance on them. That is what the army is about, bring them in and make something of them. They can actually be someone and have opportunities in the army as well as when they get out, that they wouldnt have been able to have otherwise.

This is a quote from the article below.

Almost 59,000 drug abusers entered the military in the same period.

The report, sponsored by the American think tank Michael D Palm Centre, also showed that 43,977 people convicted of serious misdemeanours such as assault were permitted to enlist.

Basically the US military is scraping the barrel because it couldn't meet the recruiting targets it was setting.

The US military is the bottom of the barrel, mostly punk kids who otherwise would be in jail for violent crimes.
