HELL NO.

WHEN I SAY NO ICE I MEAN NO ICE

WHEN I SAY EXTRA PICKLES, I MEAN EXTRA PICKLES

WHEN I SAY NO CROUTONS AND DRESSING ON THE SIDE, I MEAN IT!

if you cant pay attention and do whats asked of you.. then you have no reason serving the public!

Where I live (Netherlands) wages for waitresses are higher and many people don't tip at all, some even consider it a rude gesture, as if assuming that indeed they don't get paid enough. However since I lived in the US for several years I did get into the habit of tipping and I will usually leave a tip for good service... bad service no way! If I travel in a country where I know the wages are lower and people depend on tips more, I'd be less likely not to tip, I would still leave a tip after a single error or if I felt it wasn't the waitress' fault (like when the food wasn't prepared correctly, she isn't the cook!). However if service was really really terrible I wouldn't tip no matter how little they're paid!

I tip commensurate with the service. I have never had such bad service that I left nothing. Besides, if you leave nothing it is possible that your server will think you merely forgot. To make your point, it's better to leave a small tip.

Having said all that, however, if I have less that stellar service I usually ask to see the manager. If you quietly and calmly explain to the manager the problem(s), it is more likely that improvements will be made. (Incidentally, I also believe in telling the manager if the service was terrific.)

It has been my observation that some people look for things to complain about in order to justify not leaving a tip. They think it is fine entertainment to deliberately manipulate the server by saying they ordered things that they didn't, or changing their minds several times (all the while with a big grin on the face because this is SO much fun). Look, if you don't want to leave a tip---don't---no one is going to sue you. But please be respectful of the servers. They don't deserve to be jerked around.

I am a waitress and depend on my tips to pay my bills. I tip depending on the service. 20% good~10% not very good 5% bad. If it's really bad in the beginning I request for a different waitress. If the service is so bad that I don't want to leave a tip i'd ask for management. It could be managements fault you're getting bad service because they've put a new server on her own without enough training.....this happens alot (I've been in the server/waitress restaurant business for 20 years now).

Depends on why the service is bad. My husand is a waiter. It sometimes bad service is not the waiters fault. Wanting to long for a seat- Hostess/busboy, food too cold or not prepared right- cook/chef, table not cleaned- busboy again.
Now if the waiter/waitress is mean, rude, does not check on you, and it is obiousvly their fault no tip.
Remember that the server is only getting a around 2 dollars an hour and they rely on tips to pay their bills. Look at why the service is bad. should you punish the server because of someone else's actions (when that someone else makes a lot more and does not rely on tips)?

U still have to give tips even though its a bad service. i work at resturant. There are alot of rules about Tipping. if the waitress give u a bad service. just give a dollar or 2... But if the waitress give u a wonderful service u have to give 15 to 20 percents tip.

It depends on how bad. Usually bad service I tip 10%. If it is also rude, I do not tip and I do not go back. If the food is bad that is not the servers fault. If you are offended, speak to a manager.

I used to manage a restaurant so I know that sometimes the wait staff can just be having a bad day or bad time.

I tip a minimum of 10%. 15% for ok service. 20% for standard/good service. 25% for great service and 30% for excellent service.

Over thirty percent and I figure the person wants more than food.

Bill Clinton tips near a hundred percent, just for a reference point.

If it was obviously bad because of the wait staff, then NO. The tips are gratitude for good service, so bad service, no tip.

GREAT QUESTION..... no I don't...I tip if it is not the servers issue....like kitchen is backed up or whatever...but when they are rude...no tip...It is not a given...I also over tip...way over tip for great service...it should be that way...one time a waitress ran after me and said you didn't leave a tip and I said you didn't earn one and she actually tried to slug me!!!!.....my boyfriend stepped in and she backed off...I have been a waitress and gotten really screwed by tippers, and not for bad service, just cheap people...I usually tip about 20 % for good...) 0 % for rude.
