I had surgery Jan 16 to remove a 8mm kidney stone. It has been over a month since my surgery, and for the last couple of days I have started passing blood again!Could this be pieces of the first stone that might not have been removed...or just a new stone?Has anyone here ever had this happen?

Considering you had an 8-mm stone removed, it is likely there were other stones present. Kidney stones do not form one at a time, but in groups; most are eliminated (passed) before they become a problem.

After surgery, did you see a nutritionalist? Your diet is a determining factor in the formation of kidney stones. High-calcium diets combined with certain other nutrients can speed up the formation of stones. A nutritionalist would be able to help you design a proper diet and avoid those foods that may encourage the growth of kidney stones.

In the meantime, if you are experiencing pain, you should contact your doctor.

I've had a brother it happened to. He went to the ER where they 'worked him up' again. They checked for infection, ruled in or out another stone was coming, and did a CT to make sure nothing was blocking his ureter again. So, there you go. Oh, and since you are one month post op, if you don't go to the ER, you need to call whoever's on call for your doc that did surgery.

You would be better off asking your Doctor. He knows your case.
