Well people in the west needed a symbol to awaken compassion in them. If a person looks at the cross and does not feel compassion for the human on it then they are a sociopath. The Buddha stuck around and taught compassion but the situation in the east was far different then the west. The whole world was different the metaphors of a person living in a jungle must be different then the ones in a dessert. Buddha sat at and was enlightened at the foot of the tree or gate of the universe. In The West Jesus hangs on the same tree or gate the difference is we have to go through him.
There are allot of idiots who think its about the outside physical world and history like atheist and fundamentalists. IT is not its about the inner self the inner journey they are symbols and messages to create transformation in the heart and the brain.

No. He had to die, and violently.
Before Jesus came, the Old Law was to sacrifice animals.
Jesus took the place of those sacrifices.
As long as there are people, religion will be misinterpreted and used to justify wrong. It isn't the fault of the religion itself. We, as humans, abuse EVERYTHING on this earth that's good: Sex, alcohol, the marijuana plant, the coca plant...why should religion be any different?

maybe a little more Bible research on your part. Jesus died so we wouldn't have to offer up burnt offerings and establish a way to go to God directly.
