Exactly, I always thought that that was strange. I'm the second child and a girl, and surprisingly, I have an older brother. My parents also wanted a son first. For me, since I'm Asian, it is usually "needed" to have a son and preferably first because sons keep the "last name" going. For a girl, you get married and your last name's gone. And by having a boy first, it also gains the favor of the mother-in-law. Another reason, well, this is my parents' is that an older brother will help look after the little one...sort of like a protector. Well, this is what I think, but I don't know about others. :)

I am not sure why that is.. think it is something like when the children are growing up the big brother will protect the little sister. Stereotyping thing..lol. I was just praying for a healthy baby.. no matter if a boy or a girl! Though he came out a boy!! And now 5 yrs later.. having another boy.. and hoping he is healthy!! Good luck.

When I got pregnant, I didn't give a hoot. But I do recall as a child, planning my future as many of us little girls did. I remember that I wanted a boy first and then a girl, because the big brother would always be there to protect the little sister.

I think there is a little bit of that hope of design in all who want the boy/girl order.

I am not sure it is that way. My mom never wanted boys and she didnt have any. I also did not want any boys. But I do have a step son. My first was a girl. And if I have another baby, I want a girl again. I dont think it is easier to have a boy-my friends have boys and I see what they go through with them, and I know what I go through with my step son. I dont have half the trouble with my girl. I do think it could be to make the dad happy. I know my dad left my mom because she didnt want anymore after me and he wanted a boy. So then he got with another women, and they are married for like 24 years, but he has told me that if she didnt have a boy he would leave her to back then. I guess everyone is lucky they had a boy.

I think that most want to have their last name carried on in to the next generation (which seams like a really lame reason to wish for a boy). That is the only reason that I can think of. I am the same as you, boy and then a girl (then another boy). All of my siblings had a boy first too, I wonder if it "runs in the family".

i wanted a boy but have a 2mnth old daughter. I bet most parents are just happy there child is ok and healthy in reality. I wouldn`t swap my daughter for anything I just hope the world she grows up in improves i think the boy thing is to carry on the family name tho i am the eldest son and it sucks my sister is well spoilt

I don't know, I always wanted a son.. and got one! I have a lot of cousins and I always noticed that the girls were the brats and the boys were much easier... that probably swayed my opinion. But in the end if my oldest were a girl, I don't think I'd mind much but I would eventually want a boy!

I want a girl, but I think it's going to be a boy. My hubby absolutely wants a girl. I'll just be happy with our baby no matter what the sex.

16 weeks and 4 days pregnant.

Personally, I really hope that when I do have children the first will be a girl... I feel like I'd know what I was doing a bit more, bringing up a girl.

I can't answer for anyone other than myself. I am hoping for a boy because I had a big brother. He was my protector and I looked up to him. I'm sure big sisters are just as great, but that's what I had and I want my kid to have the same.
