Most puppies will eat there doo doo. They don't understand why it came out of them and there for they want to try and put it right back. You will find that as the pup gets older he will do it less and less. For now just be firm with him when he does try to eat it

Dogs are scavengers and there is sufficient "goodness" in poo to make it worth their while to eat.
First - pick his poo up immediately after he has done it. If it isn't there he can't eat it and so stops the "habit" side of it.
Second - make sure he is getting all the nutrients he needs. Don't buy cheap dog food (except canned Chappie which is really good) and check that the food you are giving has a good range of vitamins and minerals in it. A word of warning - do not supplement vitamin C as dogs can't cope with too much. I have read that an egg three times a week is good for keeping nutrient levels up. I usually fry them for my "girls".
Third - I have read that feeding a bit of pineapple makes the poo taste unpleasant so the dog doesn't want to eat it.
The joy of dog ownership!

You can discourage him from eatting his feces by sprinkling a pinch of meat tenderizer in his food. What comes out "the other end" will smell and taste awful to him. He will learn that it is not a good thing to eat. You have to do it every time you feed him for at least a month. (Til he remembers that the stuff tastes bad). Then once or twice a week to remind him.
You really should clean up after him frequently. There are diseases and parasites that can infect him if he make this a habit.

My 11 yr old has tried to eat her poo her whole life. If your pup continues to eat it, the pup will get parvo which can kill the dog. YOU HAVE TO PICK IT UP EVERYTIME!!!! I have tried everything on the market from the pills from the vet, to sprinkling tabasco sauce on it. Nothing worked, she just kept eating it. Like I said, you have to pick it up everytime. My lab doesn't go out without someone in our home following her with the scooper. It takes patience but we love her to death and she is 11 and healthy. Hope this helps you!

Given the chance most dogs try to do it. You have to train it out of him. Poo contains food and in the wild would be a source of protein. Tell him very sharply DON'T and scare the life out of him when he try's to do it. It tastes okay to dogs, it's humans that have the issues. Not pleasant when he wants to give you kisses and a surefire way of worm infestation. Don't use violence, use your bestest 'scare him sh*tless' voice. Worked for me.

He may be doing it to hide it because he know that seeing it will make you angry.
Stop punishing him and use correct toilet training techniques instead; see the Q after yours for my answer.
Clear it up as soon as it is laid and quit being angry with him.
