Dave ~
When a fighter actually pushes his/her opponent away they're breaking the rules, they're not suppose to push and or shove their opponent, clinching is another technique that fighters use that is also against the rules.
There are many reasons a fighter may push their opponent away, one may be to get enough distance between the two of them to land a shot, another may be that their opponent may be holding too much and the referee is breaking them enough. It basically depends on the situation.
Thanks for the question Dave.

boxer 1 will push boxer 2 away when boxer 2 has been beaten, fustrated and tired.he is so messed up that he needs time to get himself together (which uasually never happens)so he olds looks at the ref and tries to complain.

sometimes if the fighter is angry and pushes out of frustration or if his opponent is constantly clinching ie, hatton vs urango, when urango kept pushing hatton away whenever hatton would try to clinch him. which got urango warned but hatton was never warned for clinching excessively when both fighters did something they were not supposed to do.
