, yes I know not all Christians are braindead fundimentalists. It is a shame that the few spoil it for the many.
Uh? Why have I been given thumbs-down for defending the stupid religion?!?! Fine, I won't bother in future.

Yes, I am fully aware of that. In fact I never saw the inner workings of the fundamentalists mind until I came on here. Although I am an atheist, I have plenty of Christian friends who are well educated.

No doubt the vast majority of Christians just live their life the best way they can--just like the majority of all humans on the planet. It's the very vocal minority of finger-pointing judgmental latter day Pharisee Christians who sully the faith.
By loudly preaching their hateful intolerant condemnation they do more damage to Christianity than an avalanche of Atheists armed to the teeth with scientific facts.

Yes, I know. I used to get emails from a preacher who was very smart in science, a lot smarter than me in fact. To me, though, I don't have to have a PhD in anything to know certain things. I don't have to have a PhD in Science to know I need air to breath. I don't have to have a PhD in Economics to know there is a million dollars. I just feel like I don't need to be that smart, ever since I allowed my brain to function, instead of just following others. I decided to think for myself. It didn't take much after that to realize the truth.

You are correct, but you should also point out that most educated Christians tend to be less fundamentalist in their views. Some exist but they are rare. Religious fundamentalism is anathema to rational thought. I say this as a man who believes in Christ and understands that we are more than mere sheep.

Yes I did. In fact, in Europe they seem to be in the majority. Only a small (but VERY vocal) group in the US seems to have made up their mind to be (there is that term again) insane.
For some reason, a lot of them seem to hang out here as well.

Yes, I knew that. Thanks for pointing it out though.
Maybe you could get some of then onto Yahoo Answers - they might chase the lunatics away.
Still not sure what the obsessive connection between atheism and science is all about.

I did, yes.
If I met a Christian who actually followed the teachings of Jesus I'd have quite a lot of respect for them - ignorant, creationists though are over-represented on here.

I think everybody (should) knows this. It's a tiny, but very vocal, minority that gives Christianity such a bad image.
