This has been a topic of discussion between my hubby and I for a while now. Our comments generally concern the fact that if Jesus Christ chose this time to appear and did the same miracles, etc, etc. would he be followed like he was 2000 or so years ago?

Every single time our answer comes up "no". First, JC spoke to the poor masses, not the rich merchants and leaders of the country. No one would hear about him if he was in the slums of Sao Paulo. Second, the miracles he did back then could easily be produced by special effects and slight of hand today. No one would believe any video of him, and if he was in the slums of Sao Paulo (see previous comment) no one would believe the people who actually saw him. Third, no one will follow a poor, young, raggidy ***, dark skinned guy from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Especially a white, middle class, southern, born-again christian.

If a white, middle class, southern, born-again christian happened to perform miracles, I would wonder as to the source of his gifts.

no. Look back on many bible stories. The miracles described may impress some and draw some to the religion, but there have always been sleptics and cynics who were further pushed away rather than drawn closer. Jesus raised the dead and cured uncurable diseases. That did not lead everyone to believe, obviously, since He was crucified by leaders of the very church He lead.

A good many people probably would. the devil and his ministers can perform miracles. Miracles in and of themselves mean nothing. The term miracle has come to mean very little these days. Anything that happens that people do not readily understand they call a miracle----the media has overused the word for sensational purposes.

No, because it would be God performing the miracle via the religious leader.

Religious leaders who perform 'miracles' are typically exposed as frauds shortly after.

Take for example the breatharian (so worth reading up on the breatharians, they're hilarious) minister who was found in the back room of his church, guzzling burgers.

Many do. There is a famous "healer" on TV who hits people in the head and claims that they are healed. Many follow him.

No I wouldn't, because I don't test God with miracles or with anything.
