Ok I got this new notebook and it has some problem
The windows vista OS on it is faulty and i cant fix it (i re-installed it to no avail)
Even the tech support of both vista and compaq said i should take it back to get it sorted

Now, I am in korea and the vista is in korean (not a problem)
My question is this:
I would prefer to have my OS in english so can i ..
a) Buy a pirate cd and install it on that notebook and thereby replacing the faulty version on it
b) download windows from a torrentsite on another computer and put it on a usb flashdrive and then putting that flashdrive into the new computer and installing it that way?

Here's the catch though:
Because of the faulty windows on the new notebook, I can only use it in safe mode
So can I install new OS on it in safe mode?

FYI I know its illegal and immoral to use pirate software but I paid for the legal version on the new notebook but it's faulty....so I am hardly stealing

My Sugestion would be.

Do as you please as long as you get what you paid for.

My Advice is....
Do not use VISTA yet,, at least not just yet.

I use XP and I wont be fully working with VISTA at least for one more year, once all patches and compatibilities issues are resolved.

I have a laptop with VISTA on it..But just as a learning station..just to learn and play around with it...Not as a workstation.

I did the same with XP, I wouldnt transfer from Windows 98 to XP, only after 2 years of XP being Out.

Vista sucks, who ever buys it is nuts to do so. It's Microsoft way of making sure that people don't pirate or illegally download their intellectual property, which is all fair and good. I'm all for protecting your knowledge and resources.

The problem with vista is that it slows down the CPU of the computer and needs more memory space because they installed all these checks and balances, most of which are TSR(terminate and stay resident) software programs that just slow the system. This slower speed sucks. You'd be better off sticking with XP etc, until they improve vista in the next few years.

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up lots device ram. that's actual. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the computing device. Thats why there is no longer lots unfastened ram. Xp wastes those unfastened ram doing no longer something. Vista is much greater nicely matched than XP than u think of that's. Vista hasn't any subject to me for a million 300 and sixty 5 days already. Vista is swifter while beginning utility and beginning the computing device. some human beings evaluate XP because of the fact they are too used to XP or they are gamer. it seems vista is slower in video games by ability of two-5 fps. No massive deal. VISTa!

It doesn't matter whats on there or what mode you can currently boot it in. If you have a Windows Vista DVD (OEM from Compaq) then just put it in the DVD drive and boot from the DVD. This should be enabled in your BIOS by default but if not you may need to enable booting from CD/DVD first.

After power on you should get a prompt saying something like "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...". Press a key (quickly!) when it says this to boot from the disc. Once booted from the DVD, choose the new install option. Use the key from your original (OEM) Vista DVD when prompted.

But my guess is it is probably not something wrong with the OEM Vista DVD you have but the hardware itself so maybe you are better off just returning it to Compaq. (Of course, you still have this option once you've tried installing a pirated copy of Vista).

I think you will also find that buying a pirate copy whether you already own a legitimate copy or not is still theft.

You can rationalize it all you want but downloading a new copy of vista is illegal. if yours is faulty then take it back to the store and let them give you a new one that isn't faulty. If you want it in english ask them at that time when you return it. Plus in order to properly register and continue to use vista downloading it will give you a version that only works temporarily. Your stolen version needs to communicate with Microsoft every 6 months to properly register. When it fails due to the fact that your copy is stolen, Vista will then disable itself and the machine will stop working.

Return the machine, get something that works. See if they will put Windows XP back on the machine instead of Vista which is a bit too new to rely on.

well. If your native language is Korean then stick with that,(if your native language is English go with that). If you purchased the computer new with Vista, I personally would raise a fuss and have their tech support fix it. I recently spent 1.5 hours on support line so I feel your pain! I wouldn't go pirate on the OS. Nothing but trouble with that one.
One solution would be to switch to your old OS (xp?) see if that solves your problem in the short run. Good luck, I'm sure you'll get other more knowledgeable answers also.

the answer to your question is NO,

but you can use your product key/cdkey if you will buy a windows vista english version no matter what kind of copy is that. you will still have a genuine copy.
