It is a separation from God, but what is Hell like? Where does the soul go to if it cannot enter heaven?
It must go someplace. There have been some fanciful ideas of the location of hell. For me, it is a spiritual place, not one of fire and brimstone, but on intense loneliness, of never being finally fulfilled.

Death is a literal place. The prophets of the Bible speak of it as a literal place. Jesus refers to it as a literal place. Hell is separation from God, but it is in a literal place. How could it be figurative? Separation is literal not figurative. Death is a transition from this life to the next; therefore, death cannot be defined as hell. Such a definition as all death being hell would deny the existence of heaven, which would totally invalidate the entire Bible. What system of belief is your minister teaching?

Hell is real,it was only meant for the Devil and the Devil's angels (demons).
God does not send us there,if we go there then it is because we send ourselves there and we go there as an intruder and like all intruders they will be punished (thrown in the Lake of Fire).
How do we get there or end up in Hell in the first place?
Simple, those who ends up in Hell when they leave this Earth goes to Hell because they did not except Jesus ,they rebeled & defied God and God's word and because they chose to live in sin.
What belief you have described is what the Jehovah Witnesses believe and what they believe about Hell is not so.

Hi there,
That's strange that someone should say that. In the Scriptures, God explicitly describes the Hellfire and it's not a place i would like to end up in...! There are only two options and both are eternal once you get there so each person has to be sure the chances are on his or her side when the Day comes.
I would rather spend the next life in everlasting bliss than in the fire where when you skin is so much burn that you will get another one to feel the pain again.... ouch ouch... hot hot hot.. : /

Your minister is right and WRONG, mostly wrong.
Hell is a real place. It is ALSO separation from God.
God is the source of all light and all love. There is no light and no love in Hell, because God is not there. Not because He can't be, but because He choses not to be.
Bahai faith is NOT Christian (though they would like you to think they are).
Heaven and Hell are not geographical locations here on Earth, yes, but they are real.

Jesus taught that every soul will be either saved or lost. There is no neutral place, and there are no second prizes. "The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, And them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father." Matthew 13:41-43. The first important fact about hell is this:The unsaved do not go to any place of punishment as soon as they die, but are reserved in the grave until the day of judgment to be punished. Christ explicitly taught this truth in the well-known parable of the wheat and the tares. After the householder had sown the wheat in the field, his servant came to report that tares were growing among the grain. His question was whether he should pull up the weeds while they were still very small. The householder's answer was, "Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn." Matthew 13:29, 30. Now follow the words of Christ as He explains the meaning of the parable: "He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 13:37-42.

Hell is definitley real. Look at the story about the rich man who went to hell and asked for a drink of water which he did not get. Then he told the poor man to go warn his brothers not to come to a place like this. Hell is a place of torment, nashing of teeth, utter torment for eternity. There is HELL and I don't want to go there !

I believe the minister is partly right. Meaning a separation from God. Like the way God is being pushed out of our schools. Like the way God is slowly being kicked out of our country. In God we trust, One nation under God, To tell the truth so help you God. Phrases being dropped out and pushed aside from our society. I believe we are living in hell right now. A Free-Masons dream come true. Life long dream come true.

the pope said hell wasn't real and it was figurative, so if the pope said it isn't real then it isn't real.
the only person that can separate you from God is you, there is no way we can walk thru life on egg shells and never make mistakes, I always say no matter what I do, no matter how much shame I feel I will always turn to God. I will never turn my face from God, I will never allow my feelings to keep me from God.
Hell is knowing that God loves you and you not being able to ACCEPT IT.
We send ourselves to hell when we decide that we don't deserve to be forgiven, we delve deeper into hell until we cry out for the light to set us free.
Jesus will never abandon us and God will never forsake us. God isn't the punisher or the tally taker...WE ARE and Gods ways are much higher than human ways...just because humans respond and react a certain way doesn't mean this is GODS way.
PREACH Everydaycatholic...Preach it brotha! lol
I loved that post!!

It is a literal place and it is eternal separation from God. It is not a simple term. People are not going to be so "lucky" as to just go into the grave and be dead. They will go to a real place called Hell if they do not accept Jesus.
Psalm 9:17
The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
