I just think that the english language has gone to the dogs in the last 10 years, i think its really sad that a lot of people dont know how to speak correctly - if that makes sense, even on the radio now presenters seen to speak as if they are from "the ghetto". I am by no means a racist and cannot tolerate anyone who is but i just wonder whos feet it falls to that our countrys once great language has turned into a massive collection of slang and shortened words - education system or parental control of our young people?

You forgot the apostrophe in country's, it really is falling to pieces! And also, it's whose instead of "whos". Now who can blame the education system and young people, i'm fourteen.

like people have said, languages evolve, which is fine (the french for example are fighting a losing battle to keep their language pure) and LOADS of "english" words are not english at all, Pyjamas, sojourn etc etc etc.
This is all natural, and will continue. What matters most is whether you can be understood. "Ghetto" english etc is fine, if your peers speak like that. it SHOULD be a form of bi-linguialism though, so that the people who speak ghetto english CAN write a formal letter, or speak well in a job interview. This is where SOME people are being failed by the modern education system, where these things are not always considered important

mind-blowing! it is superb to work out that somebody appreciates the language. at the instant it is all too difficulty-loose to stumble upon misspelling, 'textual content cloth-communicate' and unfavorable grammar. the day previous on Breakfast television a woman from the English Grammar society (or some such) become espousing the dumbing down of our spelling by using fact with all the misspelling, anybody is obviously looking the language confusing!

If this is a comfort for you, it is not happening only to English language.

Young people in my country make unbelievable spelling mistakes even with the most simple words. I blame educational system and increasing number of hours, spent by the kids in Internet. Instead of reading books, they watch TV and communicate in forums with other kids. How can they possibly learn proper spelling and talk?

Anyway, I'm sure our parents used to say the same about us. Once next generation goes to college or start real work, they will have to learn. You can't say "wazzup" to a customer or business associate. :-)

English is a living language, unlike Latin. It is bound to change with time. I object to 'new' words being invented which are not necessary, because there is a perfectly good word already in use. We no longer reproduce or copy something, we replicate it.
You can't stop a living language developing, but that doesn't mean that we have to accept all new inventions from across the Pond.

I blame the education system. Proper grammar and syntax are not taught in schools any more, so that young people grow up without an adequate knowledge of their own langauge. Schoolchildren in India and Japan learn to speak more correct English than schoolchildren in England!

Languages evolve - nobody will stop this!
But then remember even correct English is not pure, but a blend of very different languages including languages such as latin, greek, french, spanish, italian, german and even more distant languages!

i completely agree
i mean listen to how the older english generations speak compared to todays "ghetto" slang
there is no such thing as innit, bov'verd or wha'eva
anyway, good question, not much we can do about it apart from complain, hey?
