LV (low voltage), MV (medium voltage), and HV (high voltage).

Switchgear is ranked depending on the application.

For the protection of electric machinery (rotating equipment):
LV for voltages less than 1000 Vac
MV for voltages between 1001 and 6900 Vac
HV for voltages greater than 6901 Vac.

For power transmission equipment (like lines and ttransformers, etc):
LV for voltages less than 4160 Vac
MV for voltages between 4161 and 26000 Vac
HV for voltages greater than 26001 Vac.

MV usually means Medium Voltage. HV is High Voltage. Around here, medium voltage is 2300-34,500 volts, above that it's HV.

Someone correct me if I have those numbers wrong.
