Is there anyone out there with Hashimotos Disease who are having memory problems? How are you coping? I have terrible short term memory. I'm 51 and I'm getting irritated with myself.

I have Hashimotos but have not heard of memory problems from it. I do have major problems with my memory though.. "brain fog", unable to read a paragraph without glazing over, putting milk in the cupboard, that kind of stuff and I am 38. However, I am also hypopituitary which iI know is the cause of those symptoms. Maybe you should have your other pituitary hormones checked (growth hormone is notorious for causing brain fog) to make sure there is not something more to this.

Yes. I am 47 yrs. old, and 6 months ago I was admitted to hospital for hypothyroid crisis. After discharge, I couldn't remember any of the hospital stay, and for months afterward, I had short term memory problems. After my TSH got back to normal, the problem got much better. It is a scary thing to live through, and I assume it had to do with not enough blood being pumped to my brain. I was in congestive failure and hypertensive crisis at the time, all due to my thyroid deficiency. Have your TSH checked, and stay on top of your meds. Good luck.

I do have Hashimoto's but I don't have a problem with short term memory...at least not that I'm aware of! hehehe! (I'm 45). Have you mentioned it to your doctor/endo? I'm not sure if that is a side effect of the medication (I'm on levoxyl...do you take this or synthroid?). My biggest problem is not being able to lose the weight that I gained! *ugh* very discouraging!
