The rescue cat I'm thinking of adopting has a slight problem - when he goes to his litter box for a number two he sometimes misses the litter tray! He does get into his tray, moves all the litter to one end, but then somehow ends up with bum over the edge... and well, you can imagine! He's been tried in a covered litter tray, he stuck his bum out the door!

Have any of you wise cat owners had this problem, and solved it?! Could it be something to do with being traumtised? Or his age? He's kinda old, the rescue place estimate 10-15 years old...

Please help, I really want this cat but my housemate isn't going to put up those sort of shenanigans!!!

EASY SOLUTION!!!!! Go to the plastic storage container area of your Wal Mart or similar store. There are many many sizes to choose from. I get the storage size that has a lid (don't use it) and the sides are about 13 inches high. The plastic is thicker and I think it makes a better litter box. The cats like it because it provides more privacy! Good Luck! This worked for me!
GOOD QUESTION! Ü

I know, same story here with one of my cats I adopted. I've purchased the largest cat tray you can think of and still the floor around it however well swept sometimes bears an irresistible attraction :-) It may be though that there is a "learnt behaviour" in which case try to put at least 2 large cat litters, (or if you have several cats, 1 per cat+1) full of his favourite type (try several) and if you observe that once he does not miss the spot, try to recreate the same conditions. Good luck.

Question:My cat keeps 'missing' the litter tray! I have tried a litter tray with a hood but he then tends to do it on the edge of the entrance. Have you any suggestions?

Answer:The first thing to check is that the litter pan is scrupulously clean. Make sure you change the litter daily and scrub the tray with a very mild bleach solution. A lot of cats have sensitive feet and the type of litter you are using may be too uncomfortable for your cat's feet. It is worth trying different types of litter, they may be more appreciated.

Awww! poor little kitty, my cat sometimes missed his litter, and there has been nothing i can do about it that dosent mean there is no solution perhaps someone out there knows.... i buy the shower curtains from Asda they are only 99p and i put it down under the litter tray they can be washed so it saves endless bin bags. Good Luck.....

Lugh K makes a lot of sense.

Also just try putting newspaper under the tray, the you can just pick up the top layer every time the cat misses.

I have 3 male cats and they tend to miss now and then. When I had a female she would go in the litter box and clean up after them.Guess it's a male thing.

yes, but it would be kinda hard cause its old but u can do it depending on how old the cat is though. but if u take your time with the cat and give it time to sink into the cats head then it should very much work! happy teaching!
