For my birthday my friend from work brought me brownies and then went to happy hour with myself and a few other coworkers. I had quite a bit to drink and she ended up driving me home. When she pulled up to my place I thanked her for everything and extended my hand for a shake. She then said, you don't shake your female friends hands you hug them. So I gave her a hug. The only reason I didn't hug her is because she says she is seeing a guy, and i respect that. Why was it so important to hug? Could she like me more than a friend?

A handshake for what she did for you that day was rather rude. Yes a hug was more appropriate, remember physical contact does not mean that someone is in love and wants you. However, her actions for the day, lead me to believe me that she may want more. See how she acts in the weeks to come, if you are getting strong vibes ask her to lunch or dinner and see what develops.

Hmmm... not necessarily. Some girls are big on hugs. I know I am, and I'm married. We have several guy friends, some married, some not, and I give them hugs anytime I see them. My husband knows it's nothing more than a hug. Shaking hands with people is what you do when you're in an office and on the job. I wouldn't read too much into it. It was just a hug... take it as that. If you read too much into it, then your mind is going to start playing all kinds of tricks on you, and then you'll think she is giving you "looks" when she's just smiling at you to say hi or something.

There are a few possibilities why she 'longs' for your hugs:
1) It could be sth that her boyfriend has never done to her before and there she goes, longing for a guys's hug.
2) It really depend on which country you are staying in. This could be the culture. If I am not mistaken, the French kiss and hug when they greet. Correct me if I am wrong.
3) You're right. She likes you more than a friend. But even for that purpose, she should have not ask you for your hug esp when she's seeing a guy. It's rather improper and impolite to do. To me, you shouldn't hug her as being asked unless you have an interest in her. Check this out yourself. Don't throw yourself in a bowl of hot soup.

Well, maybe she does! That was pretty forward of her to give you instructions, but maybe she just needed a hug that night. After all, you had been drinking, even if only a little. Don't read too much into this, for that reason.

It depends on what kinda country. If in USA, I don't think it matters, however, if in country like China like Japan, it does matter a lot. I am a Chinese girl, for me, I will not stand it.lol

Yes, she likes you. She also sounds a bit overly flirty. If this is how she behaves whilst in a relationship, rather stay away from her - she sounds like trouble to me ...

Of course yes she is interested in you. Wait & watch her seriousness about relationship before you surrender.
