Your TV must be digital to connect it to your computer because a digital tv has an RGB Port which you can connect to your computer which has also an RGB port. You must have a cable called D-Sub15pin. Both ends of this cable has this D-Sub15pin which you will insert to your tv's RGB port in one end and to the computer's RGB port on the other end. Tighten the srew attached to it
Then turn on the tv and place it in PC mode.( the tv is adjusted to its pc mode). Then turn on your PC and after the booting has finished click Fn key at the same time F5 key. During this time you will be able to see something on the tv. There are 3 modes that will come out each time you click F5 withFn (tv alone, tv and pc or pc alone has display on its monitor). You can choose what you like of the 3.
Now whatever you see in the monitor in your pc will be shown in the tv. So if you want to play a movie in whatever player (real, intervideo or windows media) will also be seen in tv.
You need also a cable so it will have a sound;this kind of cable is similar to what you use when you insert a microphone or speaker. Insert this cable just below or beside the RGB port (depends on the brand for the location; just look for it)
So this is already complete, you have a picture in your tv and a sound.

Connect the lead then switch on the PC and TV. Second monitor/TV should then be selectable via Display Properties, Settings or Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor? with some graphics cards. TV selection is usually via an AV button but you might have to look in TV manual.

Such as S-Video might not work with an old TV.

In some cases you have to select the TV as the primary display and click on player SW there.

If your graphics card has a TV-out connection or a S-VHS connection, you just need to connect your PC into your TV with the cable.

In the control panel of your graphics card, don't forget to enable the TV connection and set the tv resolution. Check your TV first about how much is the maximum resolution. It's better you start with 800x600.

Run your player, don't minimize or maximize it, you just drag the window where the movie play into the tv, then full screen it on the tv.
