Your starting point should be a look at the official website - http://www.immigration.govt.nz and/or a visit to your local embassy or high commission. They have a skills shortage list, but if your profession isn't on the list, you still have a chance of being accepted if you have enough points - details of this are on the website.

Homes and living costs are much less, outside of Auckland. There's a lovely beach town, New Plymouth, that sits with a background of Mount Taranaki, a wonderful 2518m high mountain that you can climb up, a quarter of an hours drive or so, away.

The people there are friendly and generally lead really active lives. I'd recommend a trip to the country before you decide though. It does kinda feel isolated when you're there, though you can always fly to Sydney in 3 or 4 hours, for a bigger city feel.

If you look to check that you have skills that are in highest demand, you will be in luck. This will hasten the process of being accepted for employment, if that is what you're seeking.

I flew UK to South Africa to Australia to New Zealand to home on a 12 day trip, and a short trip would allow you to really get a feel for the place, more than anyone else's overview of it. Don't commit until you've been there.

It's also a great place if you love loads of outdoor activities, as there is stunning scenery and tons to do.

Good luck! Rob

Yep!

If you're really serious, start the ball rolling NOW!!

I have a friend who applied two years ago, and this week she got a letter asking her to go for a medical later this month.

You have to have a trade or skill that is on their 'list' of approved trades. If yours isn't on it - you've no chance.

Be prepared to wait a VERY long time. They're in no hurry and there's no way to hurry them up either!

Best of luck!!

There will be a language test, including spelling and capitalization, so be aware. Once you've mastered that, you should go to the relevant website for the government of New Zealand.
