Jasc is the author of paintshop and paintshop pro. They have downloadable trial versions with limited time to get accustomed to the program before you purchase. The Jasc software also comes with an animation shop, great for gif files. I agree with the other answerers, don't download pirated copies, it just leads to a great deal of misery and isn't worth the hassle in the long run.
Adobe photoshop has a basic program that is much cheaper and it is 'parts' more commonly used by Photoshop. It's called 'Elements' This is a very good program and you don't need to go pro if you are using it for home editing.

Both PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro are commercial software. This means that downloading the full version without paying for it is illegal, just like walking into a store and taking the CD without paying for it.
There are free, legal, open source alternatives. You can try the Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) or paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html). But downloading and installing commercial software leaves you vulnerable to civil and criminal charges, and a fine of $750.00 - $150,000.00 per title. It's cheaper and easier to buy the software or download the open source alternative.
