most good breeders wait untill the female is 2 and retire her when she is 5 or 6.

Just like humans, if she is too old to carry, then she will not get pregnant. Of course, if she's older and does get pregnant, she will be higher risk and will need more vet checks and care to ensure her and the little ones' health. Also, take into consideration if she's bred before. If she has her first litter at age 9, that's like a 63 year old virgin human giving birth. That's hard for everyone concerned. Keep up with the vet and they'll guide you.

Most of us retire our bitches by the age of 5-6 because there is an increased risk for problems after that age and no more than 5 litters
you need to skip a few heats between births

It really doesn't matter if you have a Chihuahua or a bull mastiff. No female should Be bred before the age of 2.

They can have babies to the very end. I don't recommend this. We rescued a chihuahua
when i was a kid. She was only used for breeding and when recieved got her she had
alot of health problems. She was 13 when we recieved her and she had just finished having a litter. The vet told us not to get to close but boy it's hard not to lol. Chihuahuas
are so sweet. Anyway she lived for another few years with lots of T.L.C.

I know this sounds ugly but the correct answer is at death.
most animals except humans and a few others have menses all their life cycle once they reach adulthood.
