My insurance company, have sent me a reminder stating that no NCD is available with the policy I now hold. Having a Company car last year I decided to take out a limited mileage policy, I asked about NCD while taking it out and was told this was not a problem, now I lose my Co car in April and my insurance is up for renewal they say I no longer have any NCD because the policy does not support it. Can they do this? I had 6 years NCD last year, I dont know what to do now, I cant afford to insure my car without any NCD?? please help anybody!!!!

If your insurer is not offering NCD on renewal they should give you a statement of no claims that you can take to another insurer and get an introductory discount. They may also accept a letter from your company car administrator. I got a full NCD through Swinton Brokers after losing company car

As stated earlier in the answer your ncb is unfortunately not an entitlement but a gift from the insurer. I work for an intermediary who will give company car year for year with a letter just stating how many years you held a policy with them then we convert that to ncd/ncb.
If interested im me and i can give you a number.

Problem is, no-one is ENTITLED to a NCD - it's a discount, a bonus, a gift, which no company is obliged in law to provide, though if they have any sense they do!

I presume you have evidence of your 6 years NCD last year, so shop around other companies - your present one clearly doesn't want your business.

Some policies do not include a NCD facility.
You need to consider other policies, or another insurer.

Your proof of bonus is valid for two year or three years with norwich union, you will need to go back to the policy that showed five years bonus, this should be detailed on the last renewal notice you received from them. You will be then able to show this to your new insurance company as proof. They may ask why it has not been used for the last year but you can explain away with your limited mileage policy. Any problems please email me as I am a broker and will be able to point you in the right direction.
