Felus Leo, the African Lion. It is a "Big Cat." Defined as a cat that does not pur. Lions, tigers, Jaguars, Leopards all fit this category. Lions may reach 300 to 400 pounds. The male lion does little hunting. The lion lives in family groups called a pride.
Felus Domesticus, the common house cat. It is a much smaller animal, normally growing to an average of about twelve pounds. Sometimes larger such as Main Coon variety which averages 18 pounds. These cats also live in groups if left in the wild.
Both are carnivores with some vegetation thrown in for dietary needs.
Both have retractable claws on all four feet.

A lion is bigger and has a mane, and lions don't hunt, lionesses do. In cats both male and female hunt. Plus lions live in Africa only. Teeth size, claw size, and they will eat people if they get old and can't hunt anything else.
