A question about GPS Navigation?

Last year I bought a Garmin Streetpilot C310, it is great but i hear a lot about having to update the mapping because of new roads etc.
How do I do this?
I do know that the system works on Navteq mapping.

But map updates, from what I can work out must be paid for. NOT CHEAP

Yep.. I had to have mine updated by a Computer guru.. You can upload all the latest info for your unit. I don't believe ANY of them sold are completely up to date. (Especially Garmin.) If you are a computer wiz, you can do it on-line..
