Crab is available in most better class restaurants.
I don't know that there is any greater risk of poisoning than any other sea food.
Crab is very easy to cook at home. Bring a very large pot of water to boil. Place crab in water making sure all of crab is covered. Boil at least 15 minutes. Serve with melted butter for dipping.
Crab is wonderful. I could eat it every day if it weren't so dog gone expensive.

Thaw some frozen crab from the package and mix it with mayo, onions, celery, and salt and make your own crab salad. You can also easily boil crab legs in a pot of water for about twenty minutes (check on the web for exact times and amounts).
Or go to a restaurant (many average restaurants will sell crab for under twenty bucks or so) and try it that way. Have someone show you how to crack the shell (my boyfriend still helps me with this).
I never used to like seafood, having an extreme aversion to shrimp due to a childhood experience, but crab is yummy and I like it more each day. It is easy to do yourself, safely, and you can also try it at a restaurant (a bit of a splurge but not as bad as lobster....some places have all you can eat crab legs for twenty bucks). I want to try making crab louis one day soon.
If you eat tuna fish I wouldn't worry about crab's risk for food poisoning. Many, many people eat it and are fine. If it is cooked there is no more risk than any other fish or meat.

Crab legs are often served in chinese buffet restaurants. Crab legs couldnt be simpler to fix at home. Just put them in some boiling water with a squeeze of lemon or lime, some salt pepper, herbs and steam them for 5 mins with a lid on. Super easy! I am going to have some for breakfast. Yum

Are you talking about blue crab, snow crab; I'm not sure what you mean. We catch our own crabs at the coast, and I have some great recipes. I don't know about the food poisoning thing you asked about. Obviously, I'm alive, so it hasn't been a problem for us. Here's a really easy way to prepare snow crab: They can be easily obtained at Bi-Lo or Wal-Mart. In a large pot, pour about 1/2 cup vinegar, 2 cups water, red pepper flakes (I use 1/2 tsp.), dried mustard (1 tsp.), and salt (1 Tbl.). Bring to a boil, place a steamer basket in the pot, and put crab claws in basket. Steam for 10 minutes. Delicious with tartar sauce and/or cocktail. Good luck!
