Hi,
the family have had many different games consoles over the years and the best one i have found is the Nintendo Wii, you will find a range of games suitable for young and old.
You can also go online if you have wireless broadband, and down load games from the Wii shop.
They are bringing out new games all the time, the also have a couple of games out which have a lot of mini games on them, which is ideal for the younger ones, they will not get so bored playing the console. I hope this helps, and you find the right console for them.

I recommened the xbox 360. HD Games, lots of top titles and less expensive than the Playstation 3 (which is poor value for money)

Alternatively, try the Nintendo Wii. The games are very interactive and can improve younger childrens fitness by playing the games.

I think it would be important to talk to your grandchildren about it. Odds are, they already have a preference in consoles they are either used to, or know they want more than another.

Basically, all consoles are about the same. As someone else said, it all comes down to the games you buy. There is an Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rating on all games (see link). Check those out before you buy a game....and watch the children play it for a while to be sure it is a game you would want them playing.

PS2, PS3 and Xbox consoles are all for OLDER people. I advise you on purchasing a Nintendo Wii. They make video games for all ages but have tons of games for the younger age groups. They are known for their great video games and the system is way cheaper than the Xbox 360/PS3.

I would suggest either a Nintendo Wii or a playstation2. I have both of these and my sisters (5-18 years of age) love to play on both, also my parents play on them both to so the age range is no problem.

it isnt so much the consoles as the games you get for them. any console is fine, ps2, gamecude, wii, xbox, but just be watchful of the games you can buy for them! some carry a rating certificate now, if you are unsure then ask a sales rep at your local game store, they are brilliant at being able to advise customers, it is their job afterall. good luck!
