Most countries require six months. If you're planning a trip and your passport will expire soon, you'd better apply for a renewal immediately.

Its best to have a passport with years left on it, instead of just a few months. Think about it this way... if you were to overstay or become ill or hospitalised, and your time was limited on the passport, how would you cope with the red tape at the airport?
Remember there is a worldwide security clampdown on travellers and your minimum requirements are a passport that is in date.
Think about the cost of staying longer than you wanted and the financial burden on you, like Hotels, food etc.
Then the time it will take to get a new PP to you.
If its a money problem, fix it before you go.
'Better to be looking at it, than looking for it'
Always travel with a clear and relaxed mind.

For UK passports, it generally needs to have 6 months left on the passport before you can travel. Some countries vary in their requirements though, so it's well worth checking before you go, or renewing your passport if in doubt.

It depends on the Country you visit. But I'm pretty sure you need at least 3 - 6 months on a passport to travel.

it depends on the country you're travelling to, but some require at least 6 months. I got mine renwed recently and it only took 10 days to come back from the passport people, or you can pay more to get it done same day if you're near a passport office.

Most countries will require you to have 6months left on your passport on the date of your return to this country.
If applying for a new pass port before the old one runs out the time left on the old one gets added to the new one

Not to leave the UK - but it may have a bearing on admissibilty to the country you are going to. Check visa/passport requirements for the given country on the internet by going to the website for the country's UK mission. Where are you going?

It depends where you're going. Generally, I think it's 6 months minimum, but some countries may require more.

Try contacting the destination's embassy or consulate to be sure.
