I have a Canon A410 and it sounds like the file you're referring to is a movie clip. The CD that ships with the camera includes tools to edit photos and movies. I assume you don't have it.

Go to: www.canon.com to download drivers and manuals, etc. You can also order a replacement CD.

Google for: "Photo editing software" and "DVD authoring software".

Try (google) PhotoFiltre for easy editing of Pics, and Avid Free DV for movies. Both are free.
