1. to put into place a similar system to that of the us, whereby each year of children are taught to a certain level (i.e. what knowledge they should have for their age) and are tested at the end of each year, if they do not have a sufficient knowledge base then they do not progress into the next year/level.
2. Better support of those with learning difficulties - not just those with actual disabilities, but any child who struggles with a particular area of learning.
3. more integration of subjects so as to give the children/students a wider subject knowledge in a shorter space of time
4. more integration with nature and the outdoors
5. better education on the physical development of children and adolescents so as they understand fully what is happening to their bodies as they change and adapt.

I think that one of the key features should be that kids are taught how to be spiritual rather than any religious class. They can choose religion for themselves.
Living in a spiritual manner is the key to most problems today.
Certainly being able to read and write give kids the chance to understand what`s going on around them. But to live spiritualy and learn to love the others around us without pre-judging or being racist etc goes a long way to finding peace in our world. To learn to understand that each one has an equal right to share this Earth without worrying about wars and agressions and rallying against other religions as it is now, can change the world away from how it is now. If it`s for good then it has to be right, if it harms anyone then it must be wrong.

Emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics (the 3 Rs!).
It's not new, but without those basic skills, people find it more difficult to cope with everyday life and even getting a decent job is made a struggle.
Get rid of formal (SAT) testing for primary school children. They will be under enough pressure with exams at secondary level. Primary children don't have the opportunity to learn without pressure these days. This can create a stigma within their education that once a failure academically, always a failure academically.

Smaller classes, more emphasis on individuality rather than trying to pigeon hole kids. Additional support for more able pupils in order they don't get bored. a re-introduction of competitiveness for more able kids. When we concentrate on what kids cant do we don't stress what they can do! I would like to see a move away from the liberalism of education in order that kids learn that the world can be a tough place and THEY have to take responsibility for their own future! We live in a litigious society where people need someone to blame for their own hardships. Lets get back to valuing academia and letting kids experience the harsh realities of life in a supportive environment!

I think some serious training on memory techniques would be a major step forward. So much that we have to assimilate as children depends on memorisation that, as adults, we tend to overlook the importance of it. Another key area would be visualisation.
