To do this i need to be high skilled and obtain sponsorhip from a US based company or win the green card lottery.

What sort of skills would guarantee me entry?

I currently have a BSc in Computer Science and 2 years of experiance as a SAP Application Developer.

What skills can i skill up on that will qualify me as "High Skilled".

I am from South Africa.

Its almost impossible. Noone will sponsor visa for persone with BS (There is a cap for this), and just 2 years of experience. High skilled - PhD in Theoretical Physics. 10 - 15 years experience in Software industry. Thats more like it.

Your nest bet - Get into Grad Program in US. In 2 years yu will have masters from US university (even best school in SA is nothing compared to any US Schhol in the eyes of employer). Then it will be easier to get interviews, and subsequently visa. Have Fun..

Employment-based visas are becoming hard to get. May I suggest you find a message board that is more focused on this particular issue? What you need are contacts - information about which companies are the most likely to hire you and sponsor you. Not every company is willing to do that when they can outsource the work to India and the Pacific Rim.

You are right to be thinking about relevant skills. Even in a global marketplace, not everyone views the same skills in the same light.

I just want to let you know, that unless you plan to get a really really really good job, New York (I assume you mean the city) and San Francisco are the two most expensive cities in the U.S. A tiny 1 bedroom apartment can cost around $1500. I would recomend surrounding cities near where you want to be.

Just my opinion.

I do not know much about US imigration sorry, good luck.
