It is too early to expect any results, but it is not too early to start laying the foundations! Start taking your baby into the bathroom with you. Begin to explain what you are doing in there, and that soon, baby will be doing it too. Buy a potty chair & let baby sit on it when you go. Talk to your baby about what he/she is supposed to do while sitting there. Be fun, not stern, be playful, not business like. This will help keep the fear factor out of the training process.

This is what I did with my daughter & when the time came, it was fairly easy and almost totally effortless. My daughter already knew what to do, she just had to learn when to do it!

Good luck to you both!

It all depends on the child. The parent has to watch and take the cues from their child into consideration. I think 12 months is a little early though.

My daughter is 20 months old and she has been learning since she was 16 months. Consistancy makes a difference. lIke, at daycare, they have a 'schedule, so sometimes they don't make it in enough time. But at home she does well. She wakes up dry and goes to sleep dry.

Boys also take longer for some reason. I know several people with little boys who weren't potty trained until three or so...even with trying all the time.

And then, there will be accidents. I remember very clearly, when I was five I had a slip up, so.....

You might want to hold off for just a few more months. She will have trouble pulling her panties up and downs and won't know exactly where to go. She also isn't capable of telling you every time she needs to go to the bathroom. The best thing is to wait a few more months and she how she develops. I would wait because I would want my little one to have fun being a 1 year old. I wouldn't want to put stress on them to have to potty train so early. Yes 3 and 4 is a ridiculous age for a toddler to not be potty trained and that is why I wanted mine to be trained by the time she is 2 1/2. She just turned 2 in December and she is almost fully trained except for the night time.

Truthfully, it depends on the child. My first son, Connor, was more then willing to start peeing like Mommy and Daddy when he was 12 months and was fully potty trained by 18 months, including at night time and long trips and washing his hands, etc. Our second son, Drake, is 18 months now and does not even seem to be aware when he poops! He could stay in a poopy diaper all day because he's just too busy to stop! Of course we don't let him. Anyways, it's best to follow your child's lead and gently introduce them. Show them how much fun it can be and how it's not comfortable to sit around in a wet diaper. Make sure that they know the difference between wet and dry and that they are aware when they're peeing or pooping. Accidents will happen and patience and being consistent is key! After all, you've never known anyone who watched their child graduate from highschool in diapers! Good luck!

No I don't my second daughter was potty trained at 15 months. We started when she was a year old. She would come into the bathroom with me and her 5 year old sister. She would tell me "potty" and you bet you I encouraged her. Every time she wanted to sit on it I put her on it and eventually she just started to go. We made a big deal out of it when she did go and we still encouraged her when she didn't. I think that as long as you don't push her and she wants to I say go ahead and try it. She will let you know if she is ready or not. Good Luck! :)

Yes 12 months is definitely too young - the bladder does not even develop enough to trigger the "need to go" until they are at least 18 months old in girls, usually later in boys. If you train your child now, your just training them to go when you put their bottoms on the potty. My opinion if they don't tell you they have to go, you've trained yourself to take them to the potty every 1/2 hour or so, not trained them to understand their body's responses. Below is a great resource...

It totally depends on the child. My son started potty training at 14 months, but he really did it himself...just started doing it. I've known people who have kids as old as 3 that are still working on it. You can try, but if he isn't ready, you can't make him be ready. If you have a boy, put Fruit Loops in hte potty, and get him to try to pee on them! Makes it fun for him, and keeps him interested!
